6 Steps to e-Commerce Success

Building a profitable, long-term business takes time and work. It takes persistence, interest, and patience. You must be assured that your new system works and makes sense.
Never feel intimidated or overwhelmed. Everyone creating a new business has to start somewhere. There's no easy way out — it takes time and effort.
Put some time and energy into your site and you'll start to see the benefits of your labor.
1. Time spent now is time well spent.
The decisions you make when first starting will help determine the success of your venture. If you rush, there's a good chance you'll miss something. Take time to think about what you want to accomplish, and start planning for it.
2. Pick a niche you know and love.
You should choose something you're familiar with — something you know about. The rest of your business rides on this decision. So let's do it right. A great site concept must reflect a product that is in demand. It shouldn't be too broad. It should pique your interest. And, it should deliver high ROI potential.
Choose concepts that are not too broad in nature. But don't make your niche too narrow.
You need to be interested. If you're not interested, it will show on your site. If what you're doing interests you, it won't be work.
You need to have knowledge. Internet users are looking for one thing: Information. If you want them to come to your site, you have to offer them what they're looking for. Visitors who try to find you don't cost you anything. You don't have to pay-per-click to have them come to your site.
Adding information to your site is easiest when you have first-hand knowledge about the subject matter. Research helps — but people are also looking for reviews and opinions.
What do you have that your competition doesn't? You have you. You're what makes your site different. Your interest and knowledge are your most valuable assets when it comes to mastering a niche.
3. Research your competitors.
Visit their sites and see what they're doing. Knowledge is power. The more you know about your competitors, the better. Write a list of things you like about their site and what they're lacking. You need to find out what you can offer that they don't. They're likely carrying the same products as you, so you need to offer something different. Give visitors a reason to shop from you. Remember that the lowest price isn't always the greatest selling point.
4. Brand your site.
People need to know who you are. They need a sales message, a motto, a logo, a catchy name, something to make you stand out. They need to remember you if they're going to come back.
5. Create your benefit list.
What's good about your site? What could you change? What could you improve? What do you have that no one else does? Would you shop on your site?
6. Write content for each page.
This is where your interest and knowledge come into play. You need to have content. People want to read articles, lists, and reviews. Every online store has a list of products, their prices, and product information. You need to differentiate your store from every other store on the Internet. Put your thoughts and your research into your content.
